United Nations - international agency that would prevent global conflict. On April 1945, 51 countries including Canada drew up a charter. The UN was based on the idea of collective security. It also has 3 powers that can be used against aggressor nations.

"        Condemn the aggressor through speeches and resolutions;
"        Use economic sanctions, urging members not to trade with the aggressor;
"        Respond militarily be sending in armed force.

NORAD - North American Air Defence. Canada and United States established NORAD to prevent a threat of Soviet attack. NORAD included fighter forces, missile bases, and air defence radar.

The DEW line - (Distant Early Warnings) were constructed between 1950 and 1957. Stations were designed to detect a surprise Soviet Attack over the North Pole giving the United States a chance to counterattack.

WHO - World Health Organization, created by the United Nations to abolish disease and famine and to protect human rights.
